The Power of Your Own Body To Create Growth Factors and Stem

PRF for Hair Rejuvenation and Treatment for Hair Loss

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) concentrates the body’s own ability to create growth factors and stem cells to promote cellular regeneration of the hair follicles. This can be used by both men and women to restore and thicken hair growth. PRF is 100% natural with zero additives and is very effective in restoring hair.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

Pre-Procedure : PRF/PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration

Below are the pre-procedure instructions to optimize the results of your PRF for Hair Restoration treatment.

  • Supplements: Do not use blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Ginkgo, Garlic, Flax, Cod Liver Oil, and Essential Fatty Acids at least one week prior to your treatment.
  • Alcohol : Avoid alcohol at least three days prior to your treatment.
  • Smoking : Avoid cigarettes for at least three days prior to treatment, if possible. Smoking slows the healing process.
  • Medications : Avoid Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Voltaren and other anti-inflammatory medications for three to seven days prior to your procedure. We want inflammation to occur as this is one mechanism by which PRF works. You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) if needed.

Post-Procedure : PRF Therapy
for Hair Restoration

It is quite normal to experience mild soreness and possible swelling in the area of injections. However, most patients report that it diminishes the next day. Below are the post-procedure instructions to optimize the results of your PRF for Hair Restoration treatment.

  • Shampooing : Please wait to shampoo your hair the day after your procedure.
  • Hair Coloring : It is fine to color your hair three days after the procedure.
  • Hats : Wearing a hat after the procedure is fine if you’d like. If fact, please limit sun exposure on the area for two days. Be sure that the hat fits loose and is not tight on the injected areas of the scalp.
  • Supplements : Do not use blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Ginkgo, Garlic, Flax, Cod Liver Oil, and Essential Fatty Acids at least one week after your treatment.
  • Alcohol : Avoid alcohol for the next three days.
  • Smoking : Avoid cigarettes for the next three days, if possible. Smoking slows the healing process.
  • Medications : Avoid Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Voltaren and other anti-inflammatory medications for three to seven days after your procedure. We want inflammation to occur as this is one mechanism by which PRF works. You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) if needed.
  • Exercising : Avoid strenuous exercise or anything to cause sweating in your scalp for three days.

PRF Hair Rejuvenation

Hair loss can be a natural part of our body’s functional cycle. There are three phases to this cycle

(1) Exogen – shedding phase

(2) Telogen – resting phase

(3) Anagen – growth phase.

If multiple hair follicles are in the telogen phase at the same time, the hair can appear to be thinning. PRF is an all-natural, non-surgical option for patients who suffer from hair loss or thinning. PRF has been shown to extend the growth phase and increase the amount of blood supply to the hair follicles which results in a fuller scalp. PRF can enhance the growth of hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle resulting in new hair growth and thickening of existing hair.

Is PRF different from PRP

PRF is an acronym for Platelet Rich Fibrin, a rejuvenation technique using the patient’s own blood plasma enriched with platelets (source of healing proteins and growth factors), fibrin (the wound healing and regeneration matrix) and stem cells (the conductors of our body’s own healing and regeneration molecules). Treatment consists of multiple injections into the scalp, after application of a topical and/or regional anesthetic block, which activates and accelerates healing and regeneration. PRF is different from PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) in that no anticoagulant is added. PRF is an advanced version of PRP and is an effective treatment for hair loss.
Once injected, PRF transforms from a liquid into a gel releasing platelets’ growth factors in a way that enhances tissue regeneration better than PRP. This is because in PRP, the platelets are enriched two to four times above the physiological concentrations available in blood and there are very few circulating blood stem cells. In contrast, PRF contains all the platelets with no elimination of fibrin and stem cells. Fibrin is important because it traps the platelets and controls their release of growth factors which ensures that a stable concentration is maintained.

PRF has a higher concentration of white blood cells (WBCs) and platelets than PRP, providing a higher amount of growth factors. And while both PRP and PRF have high concentrations of platelets, PRP has the addition of anticoagulants which can limit the clinical application.

The results of PRF are excellent, even in cases of advanced alopecia where balding is severe. PRP treatment has garnered successful hair regrowth but the newest studies demonstrate PRF has many benefits over PRP, particularly in the improvement in hair regrowth. PRF may still be relatively new, but as a treatment for hair thinning and hair loss, it has shown many clinical-based successful outcomes.

Who is suitable for PRP/PRF?

The majority of people are suitable for this treatment and it can be used by men and women. It is completely natural and is not associated with any unwanted side-effects.

If you have any of the following, you may be advised to postpone any PRP/PRF treatment:

  • Pregnancy or breast-feeding
  • Undergoing anticoagulant therapy, such as warfarin
  • Any medical condition having a significant effect on platelet function
  • Unwell because of any recent blood-loss or infection
IS PRF HAIR RESTORATION THERAPY RIGHT FOR ME?

Prior to performing the treatment, we will conduct a complimentary consultation to help you determine if PRF therapy is right for you. Ideal candidates are those who are currently experiencing thinning hair.
Those who have a history of heavy smoking, drug, or alcohol use or chronic infections, liver, skin, or other blood diseases may not be ideal candidates.
Both men and women can suffer from hair loss due to a number of factors ranging from genetics to hormonal imbalances. In any case, there is no reason to simply accept hair loss as a side effect if you are uncomfortable with it. We are eager to work with you to make hair loss one less thing to worry about!

HOW DOES PRF (PLATELET RICH FIBRIN) TREATMENT WORK?

PRF is extracted from your own blood. It contains 5-7 times the amount of platelets usually found in your blood. The platelets release growth factors that attract and stimulate stem cell production to the damaged area. These stem cells and growth factors work to repair the damage.

When we inject the highly concentrated PRF into the scalp, the platelets activate the tissue repair cycle. The stem cells and growth factors then repair and regenerate the damaged hair follicles.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH PRF THERAPY FOR HAIR RESTORATION

This treatment involves the collection of your blood which is then spun down using a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelet portion using a special filter. The PRF portion is then injected into your scalp to rejuvenate hair cells. It helps restore hair loss and thickness.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY TO SEE VISIBLE IMPROVEMENT?

PRF (platelet rich fibrin) is effective in 1-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Most patients require a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months for continued hair growth. PRF treatment helps restore hair loss and thickness.
